The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro marked the first time a South American city hosted the Games, with over 10,500 athletes from more than 200 countries competing across 34 venues in four city zones: Copacabana, Deodoro, Maracanã, and Barra da Tijuca. Barra da Tijuca, known for its beaches and modern lifestyle, hosted the majority of competition venues and the Athletes Village.

The Event Planning Group (EPG) was contracted by the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee to provide operational and technical advisory services during the Strategic Planning phase of the Athletes Village. EPG, experts in Village Operations, contributed to key areas such as budget planning, Security & Safety, workforce planning, recruitment, training, and detailed space planning for permanent infrastructure and temporary overlays.

EPG conducted a thorough review of operational plans, equipment, and labour resource allocations with all Rio 2016 functional areas. This allowed EPG to optimize resource allocation, refine operations for both the Olympic and Paralympic periods, and work with architects and engineers to integrate functional spaces into the Village Master Plan. Additionally, EPG planned the organizational structure, outlined recruitment timelines, and completed budget planning for procurement and operations. EPG also mentored and provided training to the existing functional area management teams.
